HOTTERN’ HELL HUNDRED: A RIDE IN THE HEAT.

Welcome to Hotter than Hell Hundred: A ride in the Heat. My name is George Dale Ralston Jr. An undergraduate student at Midwestern State University.  I am currently a History major with an emphasis in teaching. My project goal is to research the Hotter’N Hell Hundred bike ride in Wichita Falls, Texas. This research project is sponsored by Midwestern State University and the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC). The authors were selected to participate in this national study of festivals from four different universities. This study was conducted through an online course titled Festivals: Culture in the Making. This class meets twice weekly to share articles and discuss the ethnology and the reporting of festivals. We also share updates and provide research assistance. Each participate works respectively within their his or her own communities. Each individual has chosen a local festival to research and to create a web site with their findings. The goal of the class was to study festivals through ethnography; not only telling the history of the festival but to delve into the human element of the event.

The pages of this site are devoted to the HotterN’ Hell Hundred in Wichita Falls. The pages explore the beginning of the ride and high points of the ride over the years. A profile of a local professional rider. A look at the MSC cycling team, and a look at the casual rider and the ride itself.
